Simple Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS installation walk through

This article is going to walk you through the installation process of Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS. This is going to be a basic walk through. Follow along and you will see how easy and simply it is to get Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS installed.

I assume that you already downloaded and burned the ISO for installing Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS. Go ahead and insert the installation CD in the CD-ROM Drive and boot up your computer starting from CD-ROM. The installer loads up and you been asked to select a language.

After that, the installer likes to update to the latest version of the installer. My recommendation is to select “Update to the new installer” and press “Enter”.

On the next screen you been asked to choose your keyboard layout. The auto detect should find the appropriate one, if it does not choose your desired layout.

The following screen asks you to set up your preferred network configuration which by default is DHCP and should work just fine for now. Here is the variation of setting up a static IP Address during the Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS installation.

After setting up the network configuration the installed likes to know if you are going to use a proxy server. Go ahead if you don’t use one otherwise enter the appropriate URL there.

The next step like to know if you prefer a alternative mirror. I suggest to keep the default and move on.

This step below is for setting up your storage. For simplicity we are going to use the entire disk and uncheck the LVM Group like shown in the screenshot.

The next step displays the installation summery for you to review. If you are satisfied with it go ahead.

After your review want your to verify one more time due to it’s destructive nature. Go ahead and select “Continue”

The next step is asking for some user details. Provide desired information and move on.

Next it asks you if you wish to install and activate SSH Service and import a SSH Identity. It is highly recommended to install SSH Server and if you don’t wish to import a SSH Identity uncheck that option and move on.

In the following step you can select additional services to be installed. Make your selection and move on. I chose none.

The next screenshot shows you the installation progress which will take some time. Go ahead and get a cup of tea.

Right after the installation is done the installed goes ahead and checks online for updates and installs them.

After the system and the updates are installed select “Reboot”

The newly installed system reboots and greets you with a logon prompt.

This concludes the simple walk through of the Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS installation process.
