Hello my Linux Yogi’s
in this illustration I will walk you through the installation of Ubuntu 16.10 in easy to follow steps. Ubuntu 16.10 was release in October 2016 and is available as 32 and 64 bit. Download the ISO file from http://ubuntu.com and burn a DVD with it.
Insert the DVD and boot from it. After a few moments the “Welcome Screen” appears. Click on the “Install” button to start the installation.

The first thing the installation wizard asks you is if you like to “Download updates while installing Ubuntu” and “Install third-party software for graphics and Wi-Fi hardware, Flash, MP3 and other media”. I recommend checking both checkboxes and click on “Continue”

If this is a fresh install I recommend to check “erase disk and install Ubuntu” and click on “Install Now”.

Now you will be asked to confirm that you like to write the changes to the hard disk. Click on “Continue” to proceed.

Select you desired timezone and click on “Continue”.

Make your Keyboard selection for your region and click “Continue”.

Provide your computer and user information and click on “Continue”

Now the actual installation process starts. Sit back, drink a cup of tee and read perhaps the Ubuntu information that are being displayed during the installation process.

The installation is complete. Click on “Restart Now”.

Now you are being asked to remove the installation CD. Hit return after you removed it.

After the first boot up of the newly installed Ubuntu you will be greeted by the logon screen. Select your name and enter your password.

Now you are logged in and this is how your Desktop looks like.

In the top left corner the Ubuntu Icon is the Unity Menu and this is what you are going to see when you click on it.

On the bottom of the Unity Menu you can switch to different Scopes. The far left one showing a House is the “Home Scope” and the next one to the right is the “Application Scope” followed by the “Files and Folders Scope”, then the “Videos Scope” ad the “Music Scope” and last but not least the “Photos Scope”

The Icon Bar on your left is the Unity Bar. Going down from the top are: “Unity Menu”, “Files Manager”, “Firefox Web Browser”, LibreOffice Writer”, LibreOffice Calc”, “LibreOffice Impress”, “Ubuntu Software Center”, “Amazon Store”, “System settings” and the “Recycle Bin”

In the top right corner there are “Control Menus”. The gear icon is for the User control, systems control and system settings”.

When you click on the Time you will see the “Date and Time Controls”.

The speaker icon is for the “Audio Controls”

The “EN” icon is for the “Language Controls”

The double arrow icon is for the “Network Controls”

When you click on the “Gear Icon” and then click on “Shutdown” the system will ask you if you like to “shutdown” or “restart” the system

This now concludes the installation of Ubuntu 16.10. As you have seen it is fairly simple to install Ubuntu 16.10. If you liked this illustration or not feel free to leave a comment. If you like to see specific articles use my Contact Form and tell me about it.
