Hello my Linux Yogi’s
in this illustration I will walk you through the installation of Edubuntu 14.04 in easy to follow steps. Edubuntu 14.04 was release in April 2014 and is available as 32 and 64 bit. Download the ISO file from http://edubuntu.org/ and burn a DVD with it.
Insert the DVD and boot from it and make your language selection.

Select “Install Edubuntu”

CD is booting

Select your desired language

I recommend that you select both option so that you get the latest updates installed during the installation as well as driver support for graphics, wifi and more.

Here this is unique for the Edubuntu distribution. Since this Distribution is mainly targeted for the Educational Sector and you find there very often the LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project) Servers in use it will offer you to set up a LTSP Server so that diskless clients can boot from the network into an Edubuntu Desktop from the LTSP Server. The other option is being presented to support schools with low end or even older hardware. The Gnome 2.x is less resource hungry and therefore suited for those hardware.

Here as well this is a unique installation option menu as well targeted for Educational environments providing pre-packaged school application for different grades.

I recommend the default option from fresh installs

Confirm the configuration in order to write it to the disk

select you timezone

select your keyboard layout

Provide you Computer and User information

Installation is in progress

Installation is done and system needs to reboot to boot in to the new system.

First logon after successful installation

The Desktop of the new nstallation

Top left Icon it the Unity Menu showing by default the Home Scope

Next to the House Icon (Home Scope) is the Application Scope, then Files and Folders Scope, next is the Videos Scope followed by the Music Scope and lastly the Picture Scope

Almost on the bottom in the Unity Bar right above the recycle bin is the Software center where you can install additional software.

Top right corner is the gear icon which symbolizes the System controls for system settings, log off and restart controls as well as system help.

Next one over is the Time and Date controls for adjusting date, time and timezone.

followed by the Audio Controls to adjust speaker volume, microphone volume and further audio settings

then there is the Language controls to make changes to your keyboard and language settings.

and finally the double arrow icon is the networking controls to manage your network settings and configure VPN connections.

After you click on shutdown in the system controls you can choose to either restart or shutdown the system.

This now concludes the installation of Edubuntu 14.04. As you have seen it is fairly simple to install Edubuntu 14.04. If you liked this illustration or not feel free to leave a comment. If you like to see specific articles use my Contact Form and tell me about it.
