Hello my dear fellow Linux Yogi’s,
in today’s illustration I am showing you how to install a fantastic text editor. It’s name is Atom and it is highly adjustable.
Atom features syntax highlighting and smart autocompletion which will improve your productivity. Atom has tons more features which you can read about here: https://atom.io.
Let’s get started. Click on the link above to get to Atom website and you should see something like the following:
Click on the button “Download .deb” and you should see the following.
I recommend to first save the file, so select “Save file” and click “OK”
The start a Terminal and change to “Downloads” and you should see something like the above screenshot.
Before we can install Atom we have to make sure that we have git install. Atom depends on git. Enter the following command:
sudo apt-get install git
After that you can install Atom with the following command:
sudo dpkg -i atom-amd64.deb
After the installation is done enter: atom and press return and the editor starts up.
I like to keep frequently used programs handy and lock the in the Unity Launcher. So look for the Green Atom icon and right click it and then select “Lock to Launcher”.
That concludes this illustration. I hope you liked it. Please don’t forget to subscribe or register to my Blog or Forum. If you have any suggestion please use my contact form and drop me a line.
